Investigating the Standards: Iowa Core English Language Arts K-12
Dates for Training: We are excited to share upcoming dates for the one-day training Investigating the Standards,
for English language arts. We are offering this training the last week
of May and the first week of June, as administrators indicated these
weeks would work best for their teachers. We are able to offer the the
English language arts training twice at each location.

Teachers Who Would Benefit: The English language arts training is designed for K-5 elementary teachers, and 6-12 teachers of English language arts, history/social studies, science, and technical subjects. The English language arts training can be conducted K-12, but may be broken into grade span groups depending on the numbers signing up. It would also benefit special education teachers who teach English language arts.
Training Includes: This training will orient teachers to the Iowa Core Standards documents and appendixes. As teachers come to understand how these documents and appendixes are used together, they will gain a more focused picture of the grade-level expectations for instruction, allowing them to fine tune their instructional targets.
Locations are Flexible: Locations for the training are currently planned for the AEA offices in Clear Lake, Cedar Falls, and Marshalltown. However, these locations are flexible, possibly changing to a district if sign-up indicates a geographic center that would be more convenient for participants and if a district is willing to be the host. School districts that would like to work together for this purpose are asked to contact Kim Swartz.
